The United States of America has one of the most comprehensive Medicare coverage in the world. It is divided into two main portions: hospital insurance and medical insurance. A new type of coverage was added recently to include a more comprehensive compensation for prescription drugs which are mostly expensive types of medicines.
Universal Healthcare
This is the United States government’s official website of the Social Security Administration. Any qualified retiree who wants to can file for retirement benefits online. Some 77 million citizen-retirees will have filed for Medicare benefits coverage by the year 2031 – the year when the entire “baby boom” generation is expected to be fully enrolled. All these new members are expected to put a severe strain on the system’s finances since more will be paid out as benefits than the monthly premium contributions from younger workers. Any bona-fide Social Security Administration member can inquire on the status of his or her total earnings from contributions. The United Kingdom’s social security system, on the other hand, is patterned after that of the United States of America’s and similarly suffers from the same problems cited earlier – one of solvency and meeting unfunded benefits. Both countries have signed an agreement that prevents double taxation of their nationals who are working in either country. The agreement also allows workers to qualify for benefits from the two countries under certain conditions. It is called the Totalization Agreement with the UK.
