Employee Taxes

It is said that nothing is for certain except death and taxes. Even during early times when taxes were first collected, nobody could escape the taxman. The Bible mentions of the obligation of citizens to pay taxes to the government even when it is a foreign occupying force; “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.”

Governments today cannot survive and function if people failed or simply refused to pay taxes. Sometimes civil disobedience campaigns are intended precisely to bring down an undesired or hated government. In benign situations, taxes work for the common good since they provide funding for infrastructure projects, which otherwise cannot be built with private financing alone. Taxes, in the end, provide society with essential government services such as schools, hospitals, roads, and a modern Medicare system. Taxes also allow individual employees to save for their retirement.

Employee taxes refer to statutory deductions from an employee’s salaries and wages. It refers to a forced financial charge imposed by a state on its citizens either in the form of a direct tax or indirect tax. Taxation is one of the powers that a state can employ to protect itself, similar to the power of imminent domain and police power. Payment of taxes is not optional but compulsory or obligatory for all citizens. Any failure to pay taxes results in civil fines and forfeitures, or criminal liability (such as imprisonment), and the possible loss of certain rights such as suffrage or to run for and hold public office. Any tax system should be just, progressive and equitable, with the rich paying more in taxes, while the poor paying less.

The above website offers a comprehensive coverage of all the possible social security issues and questions that any member can ask about. It is best to inquire and be properly informed rather than risk ignorance on a matter that is of utmost importance.

This site examines the two most important taxes ever imposed in a modern economy – social security contributions and Medicare premium payments. Both taxes are to be used during an employee’s times of greatest need – when he or she is no longer capable of gainful employment as in retirement, and when he or she gets injured, sick, or is afflicted with an illness that makes the citizen incapable of working either temporarily or permanently. Both types of tax should be low enough to be affordable by an employee, but at the same time also high enough to allow for sufficient pension payments when he or she is sick or already retired. It is incumbent upon any social security system administrator to safeguard employees’ contributions against any misappropriations or wrong investment decisions that will diminish the benefits due to employee-members who made the contributions.
